The right quantities without weighing

Simplify your life with these equivalences in household measures …

Difficult to know how to dose the right quantities of food to get a balanced meal. Here are some correspondences, weight – spoons (knowing that tbsp. = tablespoon and tsp = teaspoon), so you are not forced to weigh precisely all your food. Some foods, such as sausages, sweet products, etc.  are given here as an indication so that you can realize the quantity that this represents.

 

 

Meat, fish, eggs, charcuterie

A “normal” portion is equivalent to the size of your hand, fish fillet, steak … excluding waste.

 

* Meat and eggs:  

  • 1 hamburger = 100 to 125 g
  • 1 chicken or turkey cutlet = 125 to 150 g
  • 1 hen’s egg medium size = 50 g

 

*Fish:

  • 1 surimi stick = 20 g, about 5 to 6 sticks for 1 portion.
  • 3 units of whole pink shrimps = 50 g
  • 1 slice of smoked salmon = 20 g, or 3 slices of smoked salmon for 1 portion.

 

*Charcuterie:

  • 1 slice of ham = 25 to 50 g
  • 1 slice of smoked ham = 30 g
  • 1 slice of Grison’s meat = 10 g
  • 1 tbsp. of bacon = 12 g

 

Starches

*  Bread and other cereal products:

  • Baguette: 1/8 of baguette = 30 g, 1/4 of baguette = 1 roll of hotel = 4 slices of bread = 60 g
  • Country bread: 1 small slice = 30 g, 1 large slice = 50 g
  • Sliced bread: 1 large slice = 40 g, 1 small slice = 20 g
  • Biscotte: 1 classic biscotte = 8 to 10 g, 1 long biscotte = 20 g
  • Petal / muesli cereals: 4 to 5 tbsp. cereals = 30 g

 

* Other starches:

  • 4 tbsp. cooked starches = 100 g cooked = 1/4 plate = 2 tbsp. raw starches = 30 g raw
  • 2 potatoes with the size of an egg or 1 large potato = 100 g

 

Vegetables

It is useless to weigh them when they are natural, uncooked. Take half of your plate and know that you can increase this amount if you are still hungry.

  • 1/2 plate of cooked vegetables = 200 g
  • 1 frozen vegetable puree roll = 30 g
  • 1 soup plate or 1 bowl of soup = 300 ml

 

Fruits

  • 1pot of compote = 100g
  • 1 apple, 1 pear, 1 orange, 1 peach = 100g
  • 12 to 15 strawberries = 200 g
  • 15 grains = 125 g
  • 1/4 melon = 250 g

Dairy products

  • 1 pot of white cheese = 100 g
  • 1 jar of yoghurt = 125 g
  • 1 glass of milk = 200 ml
  • 1 bowl of milk = 300 ml

 

* Cheeses:

  • 1/8 of Camembert = 30 g
  • 1/2 goat’s cheese = 25 g
  • 1 tbsp. grated cheese = 12 g

 

Fat

  • Butter / Margarine: 1 hazelnut of butter or margarine = 5 g, 1 nut of butter or margarine = 1 tbsp. = 1 small hotel portion = 10 g
  • Fresh cream: 1 tbsp. double cream = 20 g, 1 tbsp. = 40 g
  • Oil: 1 tbsp. = 5 g, 1 tsp = 10 g

 

Sweet products

  • Sugar: 1 piece of sugar No. 4 = 5 g = 1 tsp of caster sugar, 1 tbsp. of caster sugar = 10 g
  • Cocoa: 1 tsp. = 5 g, 1 tbsp. = 10 g
  • Jam: 1 tsp = 10 g, 1 tbsp. = 1 hotel portion = 30 g
